Get Back

Posted on 11 August 2006 by SonHouse

Ok, I’m a kind of new to the game, having only been following SE trends for the last few months.  I’ve been doing SEO stuff for years, but never really followed the industry, just focused on a few sites and left it at that.  I’ve finally realized that there are others like me out there and have become very interested in getting involved more in the industry.

I couldn’t go to San Jose this year, due to budget constraints and the fact that I have another job 🙁 but I do plan on going next year if all goes well.

So I’m eager to read what everyone has to say about the conference, the blogs have been pretty sparse this last week due to the show, and I’m kind of going through withdrawals here, so please, all you SEO’s out there, get home safely and start posting.  I look forward to reading and hearing what everyone has to say…..

Experimenting

Posted on 11 August 2006 by SonHouse

Well, I’ve decided to build an entire new website built around a niche that I am very familiar with.  The site is only about 12 pages or so, and I’ve built the pages using everything I know about SEO to date, only the white hat stuff mind you.  My goal here is 3 fold:

1.  Try and find out how long it will take to get indexed in the 3 majors and see if I can maintain my spot in the SERPS

2.  See how long it will take to establish strong back link support.

3.  Make a few bucks along the way using adsense and YPN.

My keyword list is very targeted to the niche and only about 50 words long.

The site is up and running and I’m using analytics to track things.  Also, I’ve put together a few cpc campaigns in adwords and yahoo search to drive some initial traffic, nothing too daring, just something to get the ball rolling.  Also, I’ve submitted the site to some directories and have included a link page to ecourage people to link to my site.

We’ll see how it goes….

The Spirit of The Radio

Posted on 29 July 2006 by SonHouse

I recently discovered Webmaster Radio..it’s probably been only in the last month or so.  I’ve been reading Shoemoney’s blog and was curious enough to tune into his first show, Net Income.  Since then I’ve listened to a bunch of the shows including: SEO Rockstar, Click This, Affiliate Marketing Today, and Net income.  Wow, what a great idea and the shows have been very informative.  I don’t really know any of these guys, but would like to get to know everyone at the upcoming shows, etc.  I dig the intro to SEO Rockstar.  Rush was one of my favorite bands growing up…I used to listen to The Spirit of The Radio in my 1971 VW Super Beetle with the amp cranked up to 11.

I really enjoy the SEO Rockstars show with Greg and Todd, funny dudes to say the least and very knowledgable in the search world.  You can pick up some great info from these guys and if you listen carefully, you’ll pick up on a few tricks of the trade.  The same goes for shoemoney’s show…he’s very straight forward and seems to know what he’s talking about, plus he flashed that big Adsense check on his site so anyone that can make that kind of scratch is going to get some attention from me.   JenSense has a show as well called click this..she goes after the search folks and I’ve heard her interview some people at google and MSN.  She hits them with some hard ball questions and represents the webmaster’s interests it seems, so go Jen!

I’m learning about a few other heavy hitters in the industry…can you say Matt Cutts?
