PPC Classroom – Day 23 – Casting Dry Spells

Posted on 31 October 2007 by SonHouse

I think it’s rather appropriate that I discuss dry spells on Halloween night. Someone or something has cast a dry spell on me over the last few days. Sure, I’ve had a few conversions but I haven’t broken even for the week and today is Wednesday. I’m usually in the black on most days, but the last few have been a blood bath.

That’s the frustrating thing about PPC..you are spending with the faucet on full blast on proven campaigns and then, BAM!, a dry spell. I think sometimes at the end of the month, people are a little hesitant to pull the trigger on offers and perhaps are waiting for payday which could come as early as tomorrow or this weekend. I’m hoping for either asap, so I can get back on track.

I’d like to know how Jeremy and Anik and the other gurus at PPC Classroom handle these kinds of spells. I’m sure they’ve had them in the past as we all do. I’d be really upset if my adspend was in the thousands a day with conversions where they are over the last 72 hours, I’d be in the poor house.

I have some good data on a few offers but perhaps it is still not quite enough. When do you know you have something good? After 3 weeks of good conversions? I would think so, but maybe not. I guess it takes a little longer, maybe a month, 6 weeks? We’ll see…

In the meantime, I’ll keep tweaking the campaigns, google is pissing me off right now. They jacked a few of my keywords around after weeks of solid bids and raised the min to $1 plus, geez sometimes I hate that company! My ad copy, keywords and landing pages are all very relevant but it’s still not enough.

Oh well, time to sit back and relax with a beer and a few pieces of my sons first halloween bounty. He did pretty good for his first night out I must say. He went as Mickey Mouse and the neighbors seemed to get a kick out of him. They filled his bucket with the good stuff, M&M’s, Twix, Crunch Bar, etc. Nothing but chocolate baby!!

Yuk! Sounds like you got the blues alright. Have you been able to get some answers to your setbacks from PPC Classroom support or any other knowledgable PPC pro?

PPC is like a roller coaster ride at the end of the day, ups and downs… you just learn to ride them out. I’ve been picking up some good tips in the PPC Classroom forums for sure. There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day to apply it all…I’m still a one man operation. I’ll probably start outsourcing some of the tasks when I find some campaigns that are steady in profitability. They are all over the place right now.

In any given campaign, about how many AdGroups, Orders etc. do you have and how many keywords per group? (remember, I’ve been in this business a while)

Any luck with identifying some profitable campaigns that seem consistant yet?

Hey Rob…I usually run about 10 adgroups in any given campaign. The keyword count can run into the hundreds until I can narrow it down to the ones that convert. I’m having a good week so far with the campaigns I’m running, they are in the black which is always good. We’ll see if they hold…
